Phillip Williams (mandolin), Kevin Wright (guitar),
Kurt Stephenson (banjo) & Curtis Mann (bass)

Here is a pleasant offering of bluegrass performed by the Jackson, Tenn., based Stone County Connection. This self-titled disc consists mostly of familiar pieces like "East Virginia Blues," "Gotta Travel On," and "Sweetheart You Done Me Wrong," along with seven others. The lone exception is the instrumental "Big Will" composed by the group's guitarist, Kevin Wright. Stone County Connection has created an agreeable project, and what is lacking in originality is compensated for by skilled execution.

            Bluegrass Unlimited, April 2007

Jackson, Tennessee’s Stone County Connection is Kevin Wright, guitar/vocals; Kurt Stephenson, banjo, mandolins, vocals; Curtis Mann, bass and vocals; and Phillip Williams, mandolin/vocals. Guest fiddlers are Becky Goodrum, Brandon Apple and Carl Franklin. The vocals and harmonies are solid and tight on these numbers and some good examples are Cold Sheets Of Rain and the moving Gotta Travel On. Wright’s vocals are pleasant yet powerful, especially on numbers such as the ballad Tennessee Blues, Heartaches By The Number, and I’ll Talk It All Over With Him, which also displays his fluid flatpicking skills. These boys can also pick as evidenced on Bill Monroe’s Old Brown County Barn and Wright’s original Big Will. Other selections include Sweetheart You Done Me Wrong, He Must Have Loved Me A Lot and East Virginia Blues.
